In the hands of trained staff, the VDU is a powerful selling tool, giving access to the central reservation systems (CRS) of the major tour operators and airlines. The system allows staff to check availability, confirm prices and ultimately make bookings on behalf of their clients. The computer systems developed by major tour operators allow agents to offer alternative holidays if the customer’s first choice is unavailable. Situation Analysis Situation analysis is a comprehensive study of the environment in which a business operates, going from ‘the big picture’ (macro-environment) to smaller operational details. Market Summary The travel and tourism market is separated into two main categories, business and leisure travel. Each contributes about 45% to total revenues. The remainder of revenues are generated from combined business/leisure trips. The market is further separated into domestic and international travel. Domestic travel accounts for approximately 70% of industry revenues. Business travel can be divided into two categories, the medium to large corporate account, and the small independent businessman. Leisure travellers are classified according to the types of trips they take, income, or age. The four primary leisure travel groups are: †¢Adventure, Special-Interest, RR, Honeymoons Sightseeing Trips. †¢High-Income Travellers. †¢Budget-Conscious Travellers. †¢Families, Students Seniors. Market Trends One notable trend in the travel industry is increased deregulation. Deregulation has increased competition and the need for differentiation. In many cases, the prices of airfare and other travel-related services has dropped. Additional trends include caps on agency commissions by many of the larger airlines, increases in adventure travel, and reduction of profit margins. Tourism principals and suppliers are eager to control costs of distribution, improve their communication function and bypass the use of agencies by developing internet-based interfaces with consumers. †¢Commission capping or termination by a number of international airlines. Development of ‘no-frills’ airlines that perform most of their reservations online. †¢Increased computer literacy and confidence among consumers. †¢Emergence and rapid development of electronic intermediaries †¢Expansion of customer relationship management systems and their gradual integration with loyalty schemes. †¢eTicketing eventually will enable the entire process of making reservations and purchasing tourism processes paperless. †¢Tradi tional, intermediaries re-engineering their processes in order to update their offering improve customer satisfaction and remain competitive. Tourism destinations develop regional systems to enhance their representations, boost their image and attract direct bookings. FIVE FORCES:- Strategy analyzing competitive industry structure Defining an industry An industry is a group of firms that market products which are close substitutes for each other (e. g. the car industry, the travel industry). Some industries are more profitable than others. The answer lies in understanding the dynamics of competitive structure in an industry. The most influential analytical model for assessing the nature of competition in an industry is Michael Porters Five Forces Model, which is described below: In the present scenario:- The bargaining power of suppliers is low, compounded by the independence of the Travel Agent under review. Buyers bargaining power is also relatively low for package holiday buyers, though somewhat stronger for specialists. The risk of new entrants is relatively high, particularly in the specialist market, though some barriers do exist. The threat of substitutes is virtually nil, competitive rivalry is very high and competition for customers is fierce. However, the effects of the Internet need to be taken into account. SWOT Analysis of Kings travel agency Definition: SWOT is an abbreviation for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats SWOT analysis is an important tool for auditing the overall strategic position of a business and its environment. Once key strategic issues have been identified, they feed into business objectives, particularly marketing objectives. It is also a very popular tool with business and marketing students because it is quick and easy to learn. The Key Distinction Internal and External Issues Strengths and weaknesses are internal factors. For example, strength could be your specialist marketing expertise. A weakness could be the lack of a new product. Opportunities and threats are external factors. For example, an opportunity could be a developing distribution channel such as the Internet, or changing consumer lifestyles that potentially increase demand for a companys products. A threat could be a new competitor in an important existing market or a technological change that makes existing products potentially obsolete. Business Society Planet

Question: Discuss about the Business Society Planet. Answer: Introduction: By accessing different articles discussing the concept named The Triple Bottom Line, I have developed the fundamental knowledge associated with one of the vital factors of sustainability and its impact on the global business. In the process of investigation, I have gained the significant understanding by reviewing the work developed by Timothy F. Slapher, who is a Ph.D. from Indiana University. Thanks to the particular work, I achieved the suitable perception regarding the meaning and concepts of the triple bottom line (TBL) and its applicability to the business (Bocken, et al., 2014). Over the past decade, maintaining or achieving sustainability is one of the key goals of the companies, whether it is a profit making, non-profit, or government enterprise. From the different research works conducted by the previous scholars and academics, I have observed that the businesses from multiple genres find it challenging to measure the required degree of sustainability regarding the operatio ns and activities. Therefore, measuring the required level of sustainability is an unavoidable approach for the modern day businesses to ensure the achievement of sustainable growth (Boons Ldeke-Freund, 2013). Different researchers like John Elkington strove to measure the sustainability during the mid-1990s by encompassing a unique framework gauging the performance of the corporate businesses of America. From the overall analysis of the theoretical works developed related to TBL, I have obtained the understanding that the particular factor reflects a useful accounting framework incorporating three magnitudes of performance: social, financial, and environmental (Bocken, et al., 2013). All of these perspectives apply to the operations of the business organizations to ensure the induction of ecological and social measures, which creates some significant challenges in different sectors. By the application of different studies, I have gained the knowledge that there are five types of sustainable capital available for the business. These capitals are responsible for shaping up the goods and services produced by the firm with the inclusion of quality. The identified process subsequently helps to promote the enhancement of healthy lives within the respective society. The five forms of capitals are known as manufacturing capital, financial capital, social capital, human capital, and natural capital (Seuring, 2013). I identify the suitable differentiation regarding these five individual types through analysing a project developed to provide appropriate explanation. In case of the natural capital, it refers to the available stock or energy of the business responsible for producing the goods or services for the community. The stock may include the renewable or non-renewable resources or the major processes like the climate regulations. On the other hand, human capital in th e form of knowledge, skills, and motivation of the individuals are also liable to produce the product by the business. Social capital deals with the institutions helping to develop the human capital by the productive collaborations from others like the businesses, communities, or trade unions (Welford, 2013). Manufacturing capital suggests the fixed assets or materials supporting the production process. Lastly, financial capital plays the most important role to the overall economy while providing understanding to the business regarding the types of capital to be owned or traded. Combining all of these capitals in the right place to produce the goods or services is a highly challenging task for the global businesses, as the process requires the suitable availability of needful sources. Dunphy et al. (2003) have identified The Six Phases of Business Approaches to Sustainability stating six framing principles for the designing the economic models of the organizations in a non-linear world. Based on the analysis of the particular work, I understand that these policies should need to be treated as the philosophy for the organizations and the business practices must need to be developed accordingly. The concepts of these principles are based on managing uncertainty, ability to adopt, maintaining openness, developing the participatory cultures and tools, shaping up a value-based approach, and establishing the system of change (Kolk Buuse, 2013). All of these concepts are needed to be maintained by the business for promoting the development of a sustainable presence in the modern day environment. In the process of managing uncertainty, organizations face challenges diagnostically regarding the detection of underlying patterns and hidden relationships driving the particul ar type of chaos. On the other hand, the modern day business environment is highly competitive and dynamically changing (Seuring, 2013). Therefore, the global companies are facing a considerable amount of difficulty regarding the ability to adapt and response accordingly while continuously learning to become agile. Lastly, I have come to know about some important examples where businesses successfully able to adopt the sustainable requirements to become a sustainable organization in the global context. The leading names like Starbucks and Ford have adopted the best practices required to develop sustainable business operations through changing and modifying their policies (Bocken, et al., 2014). Specifically, I have observed that the activities of these companies are altered dramatically by considering the critical climate change policies identified by their respective country government. Advantages of Monsanto Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Advantages of Monsanto - Essay Example The state of the art research and development department of the firm is also constantly looking for new creative input to ensure better yield of the crops. Its drought proof seeds are hugely beneficial for countries which are vulnerable to frequent drought like conditions. Hence, its contribution to agriculture through genetically modified seeds has enabled it to gain leverage against it rival in the industry. The farmers across the globe, especially in the under developed and developing nations like Africa and India, have been able to improve their standard of living through increased food production and revenues. In the current environment of increasing awareness regarding environment and sustainability of resources, Monsanto’s future is seriously threatened by the views and perspectives on genetically modified crops. Critics, including social activists, environmentalist, few farmers etc. believe that genetically modified seeds, despite increased yield, have grave long term consequences on the quality of soil, plants and biodiversity at large. The sustainability of natural resources is threatened through the constant use of genetically modified seeds. Moreover, as the seeds are anti-resistant to insects and help to kill weeds, this property could also have slow poisonous impact on the overall health and wellbeing of people who consume food products produced from such seeds. The growing concern of the community and social activists becomes more pertinent when seen from the wider perspective of increasing environment degradation that has adversely impacted the balance of ecosystem. It is believed that indiscriminate use of genetically modified seeds would not only spoil the quality of soil and fertility but it could also adversely impact the ground water and environment. The conservation and preservation of natural sources is vital ingredient of population dynamics because its survival is intrinsically linked to the available resources like clean air, wa ter, food, energy etc. (Dyson, 2005). The sustainability of the same therefore becomes critical element of survival. Answer 2 As CEO of Monsanto, I would engage group of social activists and community to create awareness as to how to exploit the properties of genetically modified seeds to grow crops that would address the needs of growing population. The exemplary properties of the GM seeds are major factors that can overcome the natural disasters like drought and famine and provide the vulnerable population with quality food. The myriad environmental elements like poverty, lack of resources, education, awareness etc. have created serious problems of food security. According to FAO (2009) more than 850 million across the globe are facing food insecurity with large population in nearly 39 Sub-Saharan being under nourished. It is seen that low agricultural yield and lack of government initiatives in land reforms are important constituents that force farmers to migrate. The GM seeds ca n significantly contribute to the global concern of food insecurity. Engaging social activists and farmers would be mutually beneficial as it would help create awareness regarding the use of GM seeds so that ecosystem is not disturbed. If the farmers follow rotation of crops in the field with GM and non-GM seeds, the fertility of soil can be maintained. At the same time, the concern of insects and weeds becoming hardier or developing resistance to the Roundup Ready Herbicide, a herbicide that kills weeds, can be easily averted. The rotation farming is therefore hugely important aspect of farming where GM seed are used that promotes sustainability of resources and helps conservation and preservation of environment. As a CEO, I would also like to give incentives to farmers in terms of rebate and discounts on the
